Nico Koster is known for his award-winning news-photos and the many portraits he made of international and Dutch visual artists. He also had pop musicians in front of his camera, which has led to several well-known iconic photographs. For example, Nico photographed David Bowie when Bowie visited the Netherlands in 1974 for a performance in the Toppop studio. He came to perform the song ‘Rebel Rebel’, and was joined by his wife Angie and son Zowie. Nico photographed the rock star at a very casual moment as David was waiting in the Amstel Hotel for the Edisons that evening (he also received one). After the event Nico was the only one allowed to accompany Bowie and his family to his suite, where Nico shot some beautiful portraits of the singer.
